The purpose off The Egg Bar Shoe is to move the centre of support forwards through the modification of the contact of the shoe with the ground.

As a result the collapse of the fetlock joint is reduced, which means that:

  •  the displacement of pressure towards the back is reduced;

  • there is increased and speedier flexor muscle movement, and even more so  when the toe clip is either rolled, rockered, or left as an open toe eggbar.

 The oval shoe acts mechanically on the leg as if the fetlock had been lifted up.  Now we know that the higher the fetlock, the more the horse brings its legs back: is underneath himself in front and stands firmly behind.

 The shoe's effect on the gaits of the horse are as follows :

  • Front legs: it shortens and speeds up the action of the legs and facilitates  the knee action.  It is mostly used on horses with receding or dropped heels and on horses who fall short in their front action.

  • Hind legs: it reduces the stress on the tendons and the ligaments, especially in horses whose heels are too low or who may have hock problems;  it increases the distance between the back and front legs and can also be used to reduce over-reach problems.
